Spring!

I thought this would be the perfect time to begin the Paper + Pop blog.  For me, it's not only one of my favorite seasons, but defines my "rebirth" with this new endeavor.

I recently did a shoot for Carousel Party Magazine entitled, "Modern Easter."  After featuring a couple of craft project shoots in their Valentine's and St. Patrick's Day issues, it was time to get back in the swing with a fresh and colorful photo shoot.  I'm not one for soft, muted shades, so decided on a palette of vibrant yellow, black and white.

The table was set with one of my favorite springtime plates, featuring an adorable chick.  Sunny from Sunny by Design recreated the chick illustration for the simple place cards and candy buffet table tags.  After deciding on the theme, I ran over to Kim's shop at The TomKat Studio and chose black and white polka dot cupcake liners and the most adorable yellow ice cream spoons to compliment the table.

Bright yellow tulips filled the black ginger jar vase as they are one of my favorite springtime florals.  In order to convey a modern theme, I went with black and white striped as well as polka dot ribbon.  Love how they came out on the custom candy bars.

Marshmallow Peeps, black and white Sixlets and lemon drop candies filled the jars.  I added some great rock candy (my signature candy) in yellow and black and displayed them in one of my acrylic trays dressed with ribbon.  I'm finding rock candy swizzle sticks are one of my "can't do without" candy on all my tables.  I just adore them!

After setup at Cupcake Girlz' party room (thank you, Karen!), Jill Lazarus from Jillpieces Studio began her magic.  Zoe, Jill's adorable two year old, posed on cue and did a fantastic job.  I think it had something to do with the sweet rewards we kept handing to her.  She was just perfect with her party dress and black and white Converse sneakers.

Karen from Cupcake Girlz created custom vanilla cupcakes for us, and matched the colors perfectly.  (My favorite part of the shoot was eating one on the way home!)  Black and white penny sticks and lemon macarons also graced the table.

Thank you, Carousel Party Magazine for giving me the opportunity to contribute to your fabulous spring issue.  I hope you continue to follow my new blog and get out there and enjoy the beauty of this wonderful season!
